RSP - CSR1
Ravago Shah Polymers very strongly believes in giving back to the society in any way possible. Recently RSP has initiated a new CSR engagement with Vanodaya Foundation who are engaged in conserving nature and wildlife.
With a contiguous wildlife habitat area of 1027 km, the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary is located across three districts of Ramanagar, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya in Karnataka. Tucked away amidst valleys, the mighty Cauvery River, mountains, and copious greenery, the sanctuary is home to diverse flora and fauna. Over the last few years, there have been a lot of conflicts that have arisen between animals and humans which have resulted in animal injuries/poaching, forest fires, agricultural land being destroyed and many more conflicts. The Vanodaya team focusses on resolving these issues and building a sustainable system where man and wild can co-exist.
The team at RSP believes in connecting at the root level, before carrying out a plan of action. We conducted several field activities to help the team align with the environment and local community around the wildlife sanctuary. RSP decided to not only help financially but also sent out our volunteers to help with various ground level activities that are conducted by the Vanodaya Trust.
The first team was part of an Eco-club at a local government school. The intention of the club is to empower students and members to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. The Eco-club also educates the students on living around the wild.
Our second team looked after the ground patrolling, with the intention to avoid incidents of encroachment and trespassing. The team went around the forest to look out for trespassers and for any traps that were laid out by hunters.
The team also participated in a village visit to understand the human-elephant conflict in the sanctuary. According to the WWF Elephant-human conflict is a result of habitat loss and fragmentation. When elephants and humans interact, there is conflict from crop raiding, injuries and deaths to humans caused by elephants, and elephants being killed by humans for reasons other than ivory and habitat degradation. So, our team interacted with the villagers to gain first-hand knowledge of the trouble they were facing with this issue.
The Sanctuary provides protection and suitable living conditions to the wild animals in their natural habitat. Therefore, we also had a team overlooking tourist regulation in order to maintain the harmony of the sanctuary.
The team at RSP believe in a holistic approach while contributing to sustainable development. One small step in the right direction can lead to sustained, positive outcomes.
